Allusions[]
- The "Children of Mars" mini-episode of Star Trek: Short Treks shows the Synth attack on the Utopia Planitia Ship Yards on Mars from the perspective of two school girls named Kima and Lil.
- Reference is made to Bruce Maddox in this episode. Bruce Maddox is a scientist responsible for the development of synthetic beings, or androids, based on Data's model, though no one has been able to duplicate the science used to create Data. Bruce Maddox first appeared in the "The Measure of a Man" episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation. He makes his first appearance in this series in "Stardust City Rag".
- The Romulan home world, Romulus, was destroyed in the year 2387, two years after the destruction of the Utopia Planitia Ship Yards. This event led to the creation of the branch timeline featured in the 2009 Star Trek reboot film.
- Jean-Luc Picard makes reference to Data, who died saving Picard's life. This was chronicled in the 2002 feature film Star Trek: Nemesis, which takes place twenty years prior to the events of this episode in 2379.
Quotes[]
- Jean-Luc Picard: The galaxy was mourning, burying its dead, and Starfleet slunk from its duties. The decision to call off the rescue and to abandon those people we had sworn to save was not just dishonorable, it was downright criminal! And I was not prepared to stand by and be a spectator!
