Allusions[]
- Trip makes a reference to Neil Armstrong in this episode. Neil Armstrong is an astronaut and one of the three-man crew to pilot the Apollo 11 space shuttle for an historic journey to the moon on July 20th, 1969. As the first human being to ever set foot on the surface of the moon, Neil Armstrong is known for two famous quotes, which has since become part of popular culture. Before exiting the Apollo 11, Armstrong radioed back to mission control in Houston, "The Eagle has landed. As he took his first steps onto the surface, Neil intoned, "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind".
- Trip makes reference to The Twilight Zone in this episode. The Twilight Zone was a science fiction anthology series created by Rod Serling that aired on CBS from 1959 to 1964. The success of the original series led to the creation of two revival series: one series that ran for several seasons on CBS and in syndication in the 1980s, and another series that ran on UPN from 2002 to 2003.
- Another staple of the 1950s referenced in this episode is I Love Lucy. I Love Lucy was a sitcom television series starring Lucille Ball, Desi Arnaz, Vivian Vance, and William Frawley. The black-and-white series originally ran from 1951 to 1957 on CBS and was produced by Desilu Productions, the same production company that produced the original Star Trek.

- The Season 2 blooper reel includes an alternate take of the final dinner table scene (after the conclusion of T'Pol's story), which the actors performed as if the characters were inebriated, including Jolene Blalock as T'Pol. The take broke down when Trip actor Connor Trinneer began laughing
