- Star Trek was created by Gene Roddenberry. The franchise first came into being a weekly science fiction television series that aired on NBC for three seasons from 1966 to 1969. It has since become a science fiction juggernaut and staple of the genre, spawning two separate film series, as well as numerous spin-off programs. Star Trek: Discovery was created by Bryan Fuller and Alex Kurtzman. It first began airing on CBS All Access on September 24th, 2017.
