"Rivals" is the eleventh episode of season two of the American science fiction television series Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and the thirty-first episode of the series overall. It was directed by David Livingston with a teleplay written by Joe Menosky based on a story treatment by Jim Trombetta and Michael Piller. It first aired in syndication on January 2nd, 1994.

- Martus Mazur is the third name El-Aurian featured in the Star Trek franchise. He is the second El-Aurian to appear on a TV series, and the only El-Aurian to appear on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Other members of his race include Guinan, who is a recurring character on Star Trek: The Next Generation, and Tolian Soren, who was the main villain from the 1994 film Star Trek: Generations.
