"By Any Other Name" is the twenty-second episode of season two of the science fiction television series Star Trek and the fifty-first episode of the series overall. It was directed by Marc Daniels with a script written by D.C. Fontana and Jerome Bixby based on a story treatment by Bixby. It first aired on NBC on February 23rd, 1968. Like all episodes from the original series, this episode was digitally remastered with new visual sequences and effects. The remastered version first aired on CBS on November 4th, 2006.
Playing the role of Drea is the first television acting work for Lezlie Dalton.
Allusions[]
The title of this episode is taken from Act II, Scene II of the William Shakespeare play Romeo and Juliet. The full phrase is "A rose by any other name would smell as sweet". Captain Kirk invokes the phrase when he sees Kelinda takes interest in an alien flower.
