Stamford is a city in the U.S. state of Connecticut. Stamford plays a major role in comic books published by Marvel Comics. It was the impetus for the "Civil War" storyline, which began when the young heroes known as the New Warriors bungled a fight with some super-villains, one of whom, Nitro, possessed the power of self-detonation. When Nitro exploded, he killed not only his colleagues, but also the heroes who were fighting him, and a large portion of the town's populace.
