Stab 7, also known as Stab 7: Knife of the Hunter, is a fictional movie-within-a-movie and is part of the Scream film series. It was featured in the beginning of the 2011 feature film Scream 4.
It is the seventh installment in the Stab film series, which is based on the true-crime book "Knife of the Hunter" by author and journalist Gale Weathers. The movie was directed by Joshua Patrick Dudley and written by Will Kennison. The film stars actors Anna Paquin, Kristen Bell, Joshua Patrick Dudley, Rachel Alexandria Arnold, Jeff Davis, Audrey Marquee, Steve Matluk, Shannon Nightingale, Chris O'Brocki, Nicole Linton, Corey Dudley, Ashley Swank, Ethan Rodgers, Michael Chasson, Stephaneie Maheu, and Laura Coleman. It was produced by Sunrise Studios and released in 2010.
Despite being based on a book, Stab 7 is similar to its previous three installments in that it is a completely fictional narrative and is not based on actual events.
In the cold open of the film, two blonde-haired friends named Rachel and Chloe are watching the cold open to the previous film, Stab 6, which takes the franchise's meta concept to a new level by establishing that the Stab film series also exists as a franchise within the internal Stab narrative. The girls paused the film after the Stab 6 cold open whereupon Rachel began exhibiting harsh reactions, declaring that they were watching the "death of horror" unfold right before their eyes. Chloe, however, had a different approach to the film and supported the entertainment value of the Stab films. Rachel could not have known that Chloe was in fact a serial killer, who would go on to adopt the masked Ghostface persona. Spontaneously, Chloe produced a knife and stabbed Rachel in the stomach. As Rachel lay dying, she muttered out, "Why?", to which Chloe replied, "Because you talk to much". After stabbing her a second time Chloe said "Now shut up and watch the movie". She picked up the remote control and un-paused the film as he dead friend continued to bleed next to her.
In the internal continuity of Scream, the Stab 7 movie was watched by Marnie Cooper and Jenny Randall.
