The St. Louis Arch, officially known as the Gateway Arch (which redirects to this page), is a 630-foot man-made structure located on Memorial Drive in the city of St. Louis in Missouri. It is one of the most famous and recognizable landmarks and is tallest structure in the United States. The arch sits at the site of St. Louis' founding on the west bank of the Mississippi River.
The 06 Protocol[]
In The 06 Protocol comic book series, the secret government agency known as Warfare and Strategic Planning (W.A.S.P.) are based out of St. Louis. They have electronic devices installed at the top of the arch to turn it into a giant antenna. Through this, they are able to track a small measure of the 122 random subjects who had been injected with the IM44 drug compound, which has the side-effect of turning people into psychotic maniacs.
Defiance[]
In television, the St. Louis Arch is prominently featured on the Syfy series Defiance and is one of the last remaining structures of its kind in the post-apocalyptic mid-21st century. On the show, the Gateway Arch houses the broadcast station Raider Radio, which is operated by D.J. Alak Tarr - known for playing old Earth hits of the past as well as the occasional emergency broadcast and/or political debate.
