Spookies is an American independent feature film of the supernatural action and monster thriller subgenres of horror. It involves a group of people who become trapped inside of a house where an evil sorcerer sicks a throng of monsters upon them. He requires these human sacrifices to keep his wife alive. The movie was directed by Eugenie Joseph with a screenplay written by Joseph Burgund. The movie originally went into production under the title Twisted Souls by Brendan Faulkner and Thomas Doran, but legal issues between the producers and financial backers prevents the film from being released under this title. It was completed by Eugenie Joseph and released under the title Spookies. It premiered in Paris, France at the Paris Festival of Fantastic Films in March, 1986, then at the Cannes Film Festival on May 14th. It opened to limited theatrical release in the United States on January 22nd, 1988. It was produced by Safir Films though Miggles Corporation N.V. holds the copyright.
