- The character of Ben Reilly was created by writer Gerry Conway and artists Ross Andru and Mike Esposito. He first appeared in Amazing Spider-Man #149 in October, 1975 in a story called "Even If I Live, I Die!" After having believed to be dead for many years, he turned up again using the alias "Ben Reilly" in Spider-Man #51 in October, 1994. He adopted the costumed alias of the Scarlet Spider in Web of Spider-Man #118 in November, 1994.
- This is a double-sized flip-book with a 52-page count. The reverse cover is illustrated by Tom Lyle and features Spider-Man fighting the Vulture.
- "Web of Life" is reprinted in the Spider-Man: The Complete Clone Saga Epic, Book Two collection, published in 2010.
- This is the first appearance of Seward Trainer. He becomes a supporting character of Ben Reilly in the Spider-Man titles at this time.
