- First animated appearance of Doctor Curt Connors, aka, the Lizard.
- First animated appearance of Martha Connors (referred to as Mrs. Connors in the episode, but identified as Martha in a note that Curt leaves for her). The Lizard appears next in episode 1x18A, "Fountain of Terror".
- First animated appearance of Billy Connors.
- This is the first episode of Spider-Man that takes place outside of New York City.
- The Lizard is referred to as The Lizard Man in this episode. Also, the Connors family are identified by the surname Connor, rather than Connors.

- In Marvel Comics, Curt Connors (The Lizard), Martha Connors and Billy Connors were introduced in Amazing Spider-Man, Volume 1 #6, which was written by Stan Lee with illustrations by Steve Ditko. This episode loosely adapts the "Face-to-Face with... the Lizard!" story from that issue.
