The Spectrum-inverter is a fictional item featured in comic books published by Marvel Comics. It is associated with the Avengers line of titles and first appeared in The Avengers, Volume 1 #23 in December, 1965 in a story titled "Once an Avenger..."
Description[]
The Spectrum-inverter is a high-powered technological item from the 30th century. Developed and utilized by the conqueror known as Kang, it is basically a sensory tool that enables a user to perceive objects in varying degrees of darkness. It is a long cylindrical object that Kang maintains inside of his Opti-view lab.
History[]
In the early years of the career of the Avengers, Kang the Conqueror had captured Hawkeye, Quicksilver, and the Scarlet Witch. Having spirited them away inside of a gravity well outside of space/time, he cast them into a sphere of darkness. Though their vision was temporarily encumbered, Kang was able to observe their efforts through the spectrum-inverter.
