A solicitor may refer to either a person that does door-to-door sales, which... let's face it... annoys the hell out of everybody, or they may be members of the legal profession, oftentimes dealing with affairs of real estate. In Victoria-era Europe, a lawyer who brokers real estate is referred to as a solicitor. Of course, a terrifying snotty paper boy demanding two dollars is technically a solicitor as well.
R.M. Renfield was a solicitor for a London firm charged with negotiating the sale of property in England to a Romanian count named Dracula. Renfield visited Dracula's home, but was driven irrevocably insane from the experience. The firm sent Jonathan Harker to replace him and close the deal, though Harker likewise suffered from some harrowing experiences after discovering that Dracula was in fact a supernatural creature.
