Season Eight of the teen superhero fantasy series Smallville aired on the CW Network from September, 2008 to May, 2009, spanning a total of twenty-two episodes. It is the third season of the series to air on the network following the reorganization of the WB Network with CBS. This season sees the return of several main cast members from previous seasons including Tom Welling as the main character, Clark Kent, Allison Mack as Chloe Sullivan, Erica Durance as Lois Lane, and Aaron Ashmore as Jimmy Olsen. Actor Justin Hartley, who had been a supporting character in seasons six and seven is now bumped up to main cast member status. Season eight also saw actors Cassidy Freeman and Sam Witwer joining the main cast in the roles of Tess Mercer and Davis Bloome. Both characters make their introductory appearances in this season. Recurring guest stars for season eight include Terence Stamp, reprising the role of the voice of Jor-El, Phil Morris as the ever-mysterious John Jones, and Alessandro Juliani as Doctor Emil Hamilton.
