The Slaughtered Lamb was an old world pub found on the moors near East Proctor in Northern England. The patrons of the pub were characteristically an insular bunch, who had little tolerance for outsiders. They knew well of the local folklore, particularly that of werewolves and decorated the interior of the pub with pentacles and other sigils designed to ward off evil. In 1981, American hitchhikers David Kessler and Jack Goodman came to the pub seeking shelter. The residents were very cold towards them and warned them about staying clear of the moors. David and Jack failed to heed their advice and were soon attacked by a werewolf. Jack was killed, but David survived, albeit infected with the curse of the werewolf.
Three weeks later, David's physician at St. Martin's Hospital, Doctor J.S. Hirsch, came to The Slaughtered Lamb on a personal inquiry. He asked the locals pointed questions about the night of the attack, but they refused to yield any information. One of the bar patrons attempted to speak with Hirsch privately to tell him about the werewolf, but a friend of his interrupted the conversation before the man could say any more. Kirsch left the establishment convinced that the entire village was suffering from a mass neurosis. [1]
Points of interest[]
- Churchyard
- The pub lied adjacent to an old churchyard and cemetery. This was where a darts player attempted to warn Doctor Kirsch about the true nature of Jack Goodman's death. This area also appeared to house a dog kennel and the man frequently spent time here taking care of the dogs.
Notes & Trivia[]
- The exterior of the 'Slaughtered Lamb' was a private house in Crickadarn dressed to look like a pub. The interior of the 'Slaughtered Lamb' was filmed in a pub called The Black Swan, Ockham, Surrey near Effingham. The bar was used but a false wall was built to make the pub look smaller. The Black swan was re-furbished and extended to became a gastro pub in 2006 making it unrecognisable from the interior used for the film. [2]
- An actual pub in Greenwich Village, New York exists called "The Slaughtered Lamb". The pub provides entertainment and atmosphere inspired by the movie including darts, a werewolf lounge and a dungeon.
