Skywald Publications is a defunct American comic book and illustrated magazine publishing company. It was founded by Sol Brodsky and Israel Waldman in 1970 and was headquartered in New York City, New York. The company specialized in publishing material of the horror, anthology, and adventure genres. By the mid 1970s, Brodsky's alma mater, Marvel Comics entered the black and white magazine market as well, publishing multiple titles of varying genres such as Tomb of Dracula, Savage Sword of Conan, and Planet of the Apes. Marvel's distributors dominated the retailer market, and as such, only the largest of retail outlets would even carry Skywald's publications. Despite having solid sales, Skywald was buried beneath the glut of material produced by larger publishing houses, and they folded up their doors in 1975.
Skywald's most well-known titles were its horror anthology fanzines such as Nightmare, which was first released in 1970, and ran for twenty-three issues, including two annuals and a winter special. There was also Psycho, which ran for twenty-four issues from January 1971 to March 1975, and included a 1972 Annual edition and a 1974 Yearbook edition. There was also Scream, which ran from August 1973 to March 1975 and lasted for only eleven issues. Skywald Publications' contemporary in the black and white fanzine business was Warren Publishing, which produced the cult classic Vampirella comic book magazine series from 1969 to 1983.
