Sivasubramanian Chandrasegarampillai was a fictional scientist and a supporting character featured in the Space Odyssey series of novels and films as envisioned by author Arthur C. Clarke. The character was first referenced in Clarke's 1968 novel 2001: A Space Odyssey. In the Stanley Kubrick-helmed film adaptation of the book, the character's name was replaced with Mister Langley. The character made his first film appearance in the 1984 sequel movie, 2010: The Year We Make Contact where he was played by American actor Bob Balaban. The character was identified only as Doctor Chandra and the film abandoned the character's Indian ethnicity. Doctor Chandra was also featured in the 2010: The Year We Make Contact comic book adaptation published by Marvel Comics.
