The Sionis Family Crypt is a fictional location featured in comic books published by DC Comics. It is associated with the Batman line of comic book titles and first appeared in Batman #386 in August, 1985.
The Sionis Family Crypt was a private crypt in an unidentified cemetery somewhere in Gotham County. It contained the coffins of Charles Sionis and his wife. Their surviving son, Roman Sionis, who was secretly behind his parents' deaths, visited the crypt one evening, and in a fit of anger, broke a piece of marble off the corner of his father's coffin. Inspired, Roman then carved the broken fragment into a mask and became the criminal known as Black Mask.
As Black Mask, Roman Sionis continued to use the crypt as a secondary safe house for his False Face Society. The Batman fought against Black Mask here - a confrontation that ultimately resulted in a fire that burned Roman's mask onto his face, horribly disfiguring him.
