Allusions[]
- In the beginning of the film, Ex-deputy So and So is speaking to a priest about the supernatural. The priest sarcastically intones the line "The power of Christ compels you", punctuating it with the idea that such a line would never work against evil entities. The line is actually taken from a rather infamous moment in the 1973 film The Exorcist wherein priests Lankester Merrin and Damian Karras repeatedly speak the line in an effort to exorcise the demon Pazuzu out of Regan MacNeil.
- In one sequence from the film, Dylan and Zach Collins are watching Night of the Living Dead. This is a low-budget independent horror film by director George A. Romero, which is one of the most well-regarded horror films ever made and is singularly responsible for redefining the concept of the zombie and turning zombie films into a cottage industry. It is followed by Dawn of the Dead and Day of the Dead.
