"Free" is the title to the first issue of the Silver Surfer ongoing comic book series published by Marvel Comics. The story was written by Steve Englehart with artwork by Marshall Rogers and inks by Josef Rubinstein. Rogers & Rubinstein also rendered the cover art illustration to this issue. Coloring was by Marshall Rogers and lettering was provided by John Workman. The story was edited by Michael Higgins with Mike Rockwitz as assistant editor. This issue shipped with a July, 1987 cover date and carries a cover price of $1.25 per copy (US).

- The Silver Surfer was created by writer Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby. He first appeared in Fantastic Four, Volume 1 #48 in March, 1966 in a story titled "The Coming of Galactus!" The Silver Surfer received his first ongoing comic book series in 1968, which ran for eighteen issues.
