Shin Godzilla is a Japanese feature film of the action, giant monster and sci-fi genres. It is the thirty-first film in the overall Godzilla film series and the twenty-ninth film produced by Toho Company. It is the first film produced during the Reiwa era. The movie was directed by Hideaki Anno and Shinji Higuchi with a script written by Hideaki Anno based on concepts developed by franchise creator Ishirô Honda. It was produced by Toho Pictures and Cine Bazar, and distributed through Toho Company, Ltd.. It premiered in Shinjuku, Tokyo on July 25th, 2016. It opened to wide release in Japan on July 29th, 2016. It made its US premiere in Los Angeles, California on October 3rd, 2016. It opened to limited theatrical release in the United States on October 11th, 2016. This film is the third reboot of Toho's Godzilla film series following the "Millennium Era" of non-connected films. The movie stars Hiroki Hasegawa as Rando Yaguchi, Yutaka Takenouchi as Hideki Akasaka, and Satomi Ishihara as Kayoko Ann Patterson.
