Shazam is a really, really old guy. I mean REALLY old. Just look at him. He is a wizard gifted with great power and an even greater beard. Seriously. His beard would even make those guys from Duck Dynasty jealous. Shazam is a comic book character who originally appeared in titles published by Fawcett Comics in the 1940s. He is associated with the character of Captain Marvel, and is the one responsible for turning a scrawny little kid named Billy Batson into Earth's mightiest mortal. In time, Shazam eventually died, but his ghostly presence always lingered on, mentoring Batson from afar. Eventually, Batson took on the role of mentor himself, and even began calling himself Shazam.
