Overview[]

Richard Matheson was a U.S. state senator and worked out of Washington, D.C.. A powerful political figure, he was the one who established a relationship with F.B.I. agent Fox Mulder, and protected him over the years from powerful figures who felt that Mulder's investigative work in the paranormal threatened their agendas.

Biography[]

After the X-Files had been shut down, Matheson invited Mulder to his office. He told him about the Voyager I launch and how it had been sent to broadcast transmissions into outer space in the late 1970s. Decades later, a return signal was received from a radio telescope station at the National Astronomy and Ionosphere Center in Arecibo, Puerto Rico.
