Sembene is a fictional servant and one of the main characters featured in the Showtime television series Penny Dreadful. He was played by actor Danny Sapani, and first appeared in the series premiere episode, "Night Work".

Sembene is an African servant who operated out of London, England in the late 19th century. In the year 1891, he worked for Sir Malcolm Murray, and lived at Murray's residence at 8 Grandage Place. Stoic and fiercely loyal, Sembene safeguarded Malcolm Murray's interests, but also acted in service and protection to his colleagues as well, including Miss Vanessa Ives and Ethan Chandler.
