Schuyler Belial, aka "Morning Star" is a fictional cult leader, a minor antagonist featured in Marvel Comics comic book titles. He first appeared in Moon Knight #29 in March, 1983.

Biography[]

Schuyler Belial was the leader of a Los Angeles based Satanic cult known as the Followers of the Left Hand Path. Believing himself to be Satan's emissary, he sought to literally bring Hell on Earth by raising the devil. He promised his congregation that would summon Satan upon receiving the sign, but after a year of promises, his followers began to lose faith him.

Belial believed that the sign he had been waiting for manifested in the form of Jack Russell, who was a werewolf. Belial's soldiers sought to capture Russell, for they coveted the secret to Jack's power. They encountered the werewolf at a trainyard in Omaha, Nebraska, but Russell eluded capture. However, Belial's forces succeeded in implanting a tracking device on him.

A month later, Belial's agents finally caught up with Jack Russell in New York and managed to capture him along with Moon Knight. He presented both men as part of a special demonstration that he hoped would unite the fracturing covens of the cult. He announced his plan to conduct a black mass on the third night of the full moon, which included blood sacrifice. He was to take Jack Russell's blood and use it to infect other members of the cult, creating an army of beasts that would bring about the Apocalypse. [2]

As Belial prepared the altar for the black mass on the roof of the building at 666 Fifth Avenue, Marc Spector revived and managed to free the still-unconscious Jack Russell. The cult members pursued them, but they escaped to Moon Knight's mooncopter. They brought Jack all the way back to Marc Spector's mansion, where they surgically removed the tracking device from him.

Marc and Jack conspired upon a plan to stop Belial. This involved allowing Jack to be "captured" while Marc went undercover as one of the cultists. Belial began the black mass, at which point, Jack shifted into werewolf form and attacked. While Moon Knight trade shots with the other cultists, the werewolf picked Belial up and threw him from the roof of the building to his death. [3]
