Scarif is a fictional planet featured in the Star Wars multimedia franchise. It first appeared in the 2016 spin-off film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Scarif was a tropical world that was under Imperial Rule. The Galactic Empire maintained a data archive on Scarif, which included comprehensive layouts of many of their projects. One such blueprint, code indexed as "Stardust", was the technical readout for the Death Star, which included not only all vital data pertaining to the station, but also its vulnerabilities, which were deliberately constructed in the design by scientist Galen Erso.
A group of resistance fighters went to Scarif to steal the designs in order to get them to the Alliance to Restore the Republic, so they could have a strategic edge over the Empire. One of the resistance fighters was Galen's daughter, Jyn Erso. While Jyn Erso and an Alliance captain named Cassian Andor infiltrated the facility, other fighters provided a distraction by setting off charges on the beach, and engaging Imperial Stormtroopers. The Empire supplemented their forces with four All Terrain Armored Cargo Transports. When the Alliance learned what was taking place, they sent a squadron of X-wing fighters to lend air support to the ground fighters. Jyn Erso and Cassian Andor succeeded in uploading the Death Star plans to the Alliance, but Grand Moff Tarkin decided to use the Death Star's super-weapon to destroy the Imperial facility. Jyn and Cassian both died in the blast.
