A scalpel is a medical instrument used for cutting into flesh and making incisions during surgery. A scalpel is a common item and may appear in almost any genre of film, but is most often seen in movies of the medical drama subgenre.
On rare occasion, a scalpel may also be used as weapon. Such was the case when masked serial murderer Michael Myers stabbed a nurse named Jill Franco in the back with a scalpel, using enough force that the injury was actually fatal.
