Sarah Jane Smith is a major supporting character featured in the popular BBC television series Doctor Who, as well as it's spin-off projects, The Sarah Jane Adventures and K-9 and Company. Played by actress Elisabeth Sladen, Sarah Jane Smith was one of several characters to fill the role of "companion" and was most commonly associated with the third and fourth incarnations of the time traveling Doctor. She first appeared in the first part of the 1973 storyline "The Time Warrior". She appeared in nineteen separate serials between 1973 and 1976 and also appeared in the 1983 special "The Five Doctors", which reunited several cast members from past episodes of the series. Sladen reprised the role of Sarah Jane Smith for several episodes of the 2005 Doctor Who revival series, appearing "School Reunion", "The Stolen Earth", "Journey's End" and "The End of Time (Part 2)". Between the two series, she has appeared in 85 episodes of Doctor Who to date.
