"Season of Mists: Chapter 2" is the twenty-third issue of the second Sandman ongoing comic book series published by DC Comics. The story was written by Neil Gaiman with artwork by Kelley Jones and inks by Malcolm Jones, III. It was colored by Daniel Vozzo and lettered by Todd Klein. The painted cover art illustration is rendered by Dave McKean. The story was edited by Karen Berger with Tom Peyer as assistant editor. This issue shipped with a February, 1991 cover date and carries a cover price of $1.50 per copy (US).

The character of Dream, also known as the Sandman, was created by English writer Neil Gaiman and artists Sam Kieth and Mike Dringenberg. He first appeared in The Sandman, Volume 2 #1 in January, 1989 in a story titled "Sleep of the Just". This series is suggested for mature readers. This issue shipped to retailers on January 4th, 1991. This issue is reprinted in Essential Vertigo: The Sandman #23 in April, 1991, as well as the Sandman: Season of Mists trade paperback collection, originally released in July, 1992. It is also reprinted in the Absolute Sandman, Volume 2 hardcover collection, published in December, 2007. It was reprinted again as Dollar Comics: The Sandman #23 in January, 2021. The complete script and original pencil designs for this issue are provided in the Absolute Sandman, Volume 2 hardcover edition, released in December, 2007. Prior to vacating his position in this issue, Lucifer Morningstar was the ruler of Hell for ten billion years, giving a concrete timeline for the Biblical expulsion from Paradise. Lucifer Morningstar asks Dream to cut his wings off for him in this issue. This is the second appearance of Mazikeen. She appeared last in Sandman #22. This is the first, and to date, only known appearance of Breschau.
