Sandman is an American ongoing comic book series of the dark fantasy genre. It was published by DC Comics and was later printed under DC's newly minted Vertigo imprint. The book ran from 1989 to 1996, spanning a total of seventy-five issues. The series was crafted by writer Neil Gaiman which introduced the mythology of The Dreaming and all its denizens to the DC Universe. The series resurrected several obscure host characters from DC's anthology titles including, Destiny, Eve, Lucien the Librarian, Cain & Abel and the Hecatae. The series centered on the character of Morpheus, also known as Dream, and his extended family, which are known as The Endless.
