The Sandman's gas gun is a fictional weapon featured in comic books published by DC Comics. It is associated with the character of Wesley Dodds, aka the Sandman, and first appeared in New York World's Fair Comics 1 #1 in April, 1939.
The Sandman's gas gun is a specially-designed hand-held weapon that pneumatically produces blasts of sleeping gas. Invented by the first Sandman, Wesley Dodds, the gas gun was a useful non-lethal weapon, ideal for incapacitating multiple foes. Depending upon the nature of the chemical cartridges that Wesley used, the gas could also function as a truth serum (similar to Sodium Pentothol), lessening the aggressive inhibitions of targets and forcing them to reveal the truth upon interrogation. Following Dodds' death, the original gas gun was placed on display at the JSA Museum in New York City. The Sandman's successors, Sanderson Hawkins and Kieran Marshall also use variations of Wes' original gas gun.
Notes[]
- In Post-Crisis continuity, the gas gun was actually given to Wesley Dodds by Lee Travis, aka the Crimson Avenger. This was after their first adventure together in costume at the 1939-1940 New York World's Fair. [1]
