The SandmanThe Sandman is a fictional super-powered villain featured in comic books published by Marvel Comics. His real name is William Baker, but he has also gone by the alias Flint Marko. The character was created by writer Stan Lee and artist Steve Ditko and first appeared in Amazing Spider-Man, Volume 1 #4, cover-dated September, 1963. The character has frequently been shown as an adversary of Spider-Man as well as the Fantastic Four. He was a member of the supervillain team the Frightful Four as well as the Sinister Six. For a brief period, he was reformed and became a member of Silver Sable's Wild Pack. Wesley DoddsWesley Dodds is a fictional comic book superhero, or Mystery Man, and the first of such individuals to utitlize the codename, the Sandman. The character was created by Gardner Fox and Bert Christman and first appeared in New York World's Fair Comics #1, dated April, 1939. Like many Mystery Men characters of that era, Wesley Dodds was a wealthy playboy with a gimmick. He dressed in a 1930s-era suit, wore a brown fedora and a World War I-era gasmask. He was armed with a gas cannister handgun that when fired could render his opponents unconscious. Wesley Dodds was a member of the Justice Society of America (later re-dubbed the Justice Batallion) and the war-time All-Star Squadron. |
