Samuel "Sam" Lane is a fictional military officer and a supporting character featured in comic books published by DC Comics. He is part of the Superman line of titles and made his first appearance in the "Introducing... Lois Lane's Parents!" story from Superman's Girlfriend, Lois Lane #13 in November, 1959. This Silver Age iteration of Sam Lane was a farmer from the town of Pittsdale. Later revamps of the character retroactively portrayed him as a member of the United States Army. The Post-Crisis version of Sam Lane was introduced in Adventures of Superman #424 in January, 1987. The character has also made appearances of Superman licensed media including episodes of Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, Superman: The Animated Series, Smallville and Supergirl.
