Sabacc is a fictional game of chance featured in the Star Wars multimedia franchise. It was originally introduced in the Expanded Universe material supplied by roleplaying games, novels, and comic books, but has now also been included in the franchise's canon continuity. In terms of rules and structure, Sabacc is similar to the Earth game of Poker in that players draw from a deck of cards, and wager a specified sum of credits or some other valuable commodity in the hopes that their hand is better than their opponents. Sabacc can be played between as little as two players, but may also include multiple opponents per hand.
The Ardennian con man known as Rio Durant was on Hovun IV in a gambling den and cheating at Sabacc. When the other players grew suspicious, Durant's cohort, Tobias Beckett, entered the establishment dressed as a Sith Lord and pretended to choke Durant, forcing the rest of the players to quickly vacate the premises, leaving their money behind for Beckett and Durant to scoop up.
A short time later, the brash Corellian known as Han Solo encountered an accomplished gambler named Lando Calrissian at a place called The Lodge in Fort Ypso on the planet Vandor. Han challenged Lando to a game of Sabbac and wagered his ship. His hope was to get Lando to wager his own vessel, the Millennium Falcon. Lando cheated however, using a palming device that could secretly provide him with a high-value card from under his sleeve.
The two challenged each other again a few days later. Before playing, Han noticed Lando's gadget and surreptitiously swiped it from him. Without this added benefit, Calrissian lost to Solo and Han became the owner of the Falcon for the first time. Both Han and Lando would spend the remainder of their lives playing Sabacc in various gambling halls with mixed results.
