Russell Varon is one of the central characters featured in the short-lived ABC sci-fi television series Invasion. Played by actor Eddie Cibrian, he was introduced in the pilot episode of the series and appeared in all twenty-two aired episodes. Russell's character was the leading man of the series and was a Forest park ranger as well as a concerned father trying to balance the emotional intensity of having a new wife while simultaneously endearing her to his growing children. Add this to the fact that following a massive hurricane that wipes through his home town of Homestead, Florida, Russell finds himself in the midst of a massive conspiracy involving bio-luminescent alien beings that are subverting half the town's population.

Russell Varon had his work cut out for him after the events of Hurricane Eve. He found himself working overtime enforcing damage control in Homestead, while also coordinating his efforts with his ex-wife's husband, Sheriff Tom Underlay. Russell and his brother-in-law, Dave Groves found a rotting corpse in the bay where witnesses claimed to have seen strange lights underneath the surface.
