Runners are a type of criminal featured in the Logan's Run multimedia franchise. In the Logan's Run novel, in the world of 2116, life expectancy is strictly regulated, and all citizens are outfitted with a palm flower that glows black on the day that they turn twenty-one, which is referred to as "Lastday". On that day, they are required to go to a Sleepshop, where they are aministered a pleasure drug that quietly ends their life. Those who refuse to go to a Sleepshop are hunted by law-enforcement agents known as Sandmen, and are decreed as "Runners".

In the 23rd century of the 1976 film adaptation, all citizens who approach the age of thirty must participate in Carousel, in which their bodies will be "rejuvenated", allowing them to pass on to the next life cycle. In truth, they actually just die, but in the interest of maintaining order, the computer intelligence that governs the dome city allows them to think that they are passing on to a wonderful afterlife. One of the Sandmen, Logan-5, suffers from a malfunctioning palm flower, and through his investigation, begins to learn the truth. Unwilling to allow himself to die, he becomes a runner along with a woman named Jessica-6.
