Ruby Knowby is a fictional reformed demon turned monster hunter, and a supporting character/antagonist featured in the Evil Dead multimedia franchise. She was associated with the Ash vs Evil Dead television series, which aired on Starz from 2016-2018 and was played by actress Lucy Lawless. She first appeared in the series premiere, "El Jefe" and made regular appearances throughout seasons 1 and 2. For season 3, the character was replaced with a version of herself from an alternate timeline.
Biography[]
Ruby Knowby was the human name of a Dark One who had manifested to take her form and identity. Her host body was related to the Knowby family which included Professor Raymond Knowby, his wife Henrietta Knowby, and sister Annie Knowby. Ruby's true self was actually thousands of years old and had gone by many names. She was the mother of demons and the author of the Necronomicon.
When Ruby's demonic children turned against her, she renounced her evil past and assisted Ash Williams and his friends Kelly Maxwell and Pablo Simon Bolivar against the forces of the Evil Dead. This crusade resulted in a time travel venture back to Knowby cabin in the year 1982. She encountered her younger self, who was still evil at this point in time, and was disgusted to discover that her future self would turn against her own children. The two Rubys had a battle with one another, in which 1982 Ruby proved victorious, decapitating her older self.
