Rowan Mayfair is a fictional witch & surgeon and a central character featured in the Lives of the Mayfair Witches line of novels by author Anne Rice. She was introduced in the first book in the series, The Witching Hour, published in October, 1990. The character also appeared in the Mayfair Witches television program on AMC. She was played by actress Alexandra Daddario on the series.
Biography[]
Rowan Mayfair was the daughter of Deirdre Mayfair as the result of a rape by her uncle, Cortland Mayfair. Rowan's great-aunt, Carlotta Mayfair, seeking to protect Rowan from the infectious spirit of the Lasher that had driven so many members of the family mad, gave the baby to a cousin named Ellie, to be raised in San Francisco. Rowan grew to adulthood and became a prominent neurosurgeon in California before ever learning about her supernatural heritage.

- In The Witching Hour, Rowan is 24-years-old at the start of the story. On Mayfair Witches, she is 32-years-old in season one.
- On Mayfair Witches, Rowan is the half-sister of Jojo Mayfair, who is Cortland Mayfair's legitimate daughter.
