Rosabelle Montez, aka Pantha, is a fictional super-hero and a supporting character featured in comic books published by DC Comics. She is associated with the Teen Titans line of titles and first appeared in New Titans #73 in February, 1991 in a story called "Paradise Lost", which is the third chapter in the "Titans Hunt" storyline.
Biography[]
Rosabelle Mendez was a young woman of Latino descent who had been abducted by the Wildebeest Society. She had been subjected to scientific experimentation and dubbed Subject X-24. The process altered her biology, giving her feline physical characteristics. Mendez broke out of the Wildebeest Society instillation and was discovered by the New Titans. Dubbed Pantha, she became a member of the team for a time under the leadership of Nightwing.
During her time with the Titans, Pantha became the reluctant maternal figure to a renegade infant test subject from the Wildebeest Society, who came to be known as Baby Wildebeest.
During the Infinite Crisis affair, the Titans fought alongside the Doom Patrol and the Justice Society of America to stop the rampage of the insane Superboy-Prime. During the fight, Superboy decapitated Pantha with a backhanded punch and then murdered ("Baby") Wildebeest moments later. [1]
A few years later, Pantha was resurrected as an undead member of the Black Lantern Corps.
