ROM is a science fiction hero character that began life as an action figure in 1979 produced by Parker Brothers. The toy was notable for being the first Parker Bros. product that was not a board game. [2] Marvel Comics published a ROM comic book series to tie-in with the marketing of the toy and the series ran for 75 issues from 1979 to 1986 and also included 3 double-sized Annuals. [3] ROM was part of the mainstream Marvel Universe, internally referred to as the Earth-616 universe and made occasional appearances in other comic book titles such as The Incredible Hulk.
Overview[]
Rom was a humanoid alien from the planet Galador and was a member of the Spaceknights - a military force of cybernetic warriors dedicated towards ridding the galaxy of the threat of the villainous Dire Wraiths. Like all Spacknights, ROM's biology was genetically compatible for cybernetic conversion and he was bonded to a shining suit of Plandanium armor. His weapons against the Dire Wraiths included an analyzer and a neutralizer.
