It is the official novelization of the 2016 film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which is part of the greater Star Wars multimedia franchise. The novel was written by Alexander Freed and published by Del Rey. It was first released as an eBook on December 16th, 2016, which was the same day that the movie premiered. It was released in hardcover edition on December 20th, and in paperback form on August 1st, 2017. As this is the direct novelization of the film, the events chronicled within are considered part of the official Star Wars canon continuity.
