- The character of Rocket Raccoon was created by writer Bill Mantlo and artist Sal Buscema. He first appeared in the "Now Somewhere In the Black Holes of Sirius Major There Lived a Young Boy Name of Rocket Raccoon!" story from The Incredible Hulk #271 in May, 1982.
- This issue is reprinted in the Rocket Raccoon: Guardian of the Keystone Quadrant trade paperback collection, which was released in August, 2011, and the Rocket Raccoon & Groot: The Complete Collection, which was released in 2013.
- All characters except for Lord Dyvyne and the Chief Toysmith made previous appearances in The Incredible Hulk #271.
- This is the first appearance of Mayhem Mekaniks.
