Robert Butler is an American television director born in Los Angeles, California on November 17th, 1927. His first work in the science fiction genre was directing the "Caesar and Me" episode of the original The Twilight Zone television series. That same year he directed the season five episode "The Encounter". In 1966, Butler directed the original unaired series pilot for Star Trek called "The Cage". The following year, scenes from that episode were incorporated into the two-part season one episode "The Menagerie". Butler was credited as the director of both episodes, but was not personally involved with the production of those episodes. The actual director of those episodes was Marc Daniels. In 1967, Robert Butler directed three episodes of the sci-fi television series The Invaders. In 1988, he directed the television movie Out of Time.
