What Robert didn't know was that the killer living Good Guys doll known as Chucky had sneaked into the hospital to kill Karen Barclay. He was hiding in the dispensery when Robert entered. He was associates with Doctor Henry Frankenstein and nursed an unrequited love for Frankenstein's fiancé, Elizabeth. One evening, Robert met with Elizabeth in the streets of the village and tried to convince her that Henry was undeserving of her affection, noting his obsessiveness with his scientific research and his so-called "clandestine experiments". Robert tried to profess his love for Elizabeth, but she halted him mid-sentence, pleading "We've been friends for a very long time. Please don't ruin that". Feeling that their meeting was improper, Elizabeth promptly left Robert in the alley. As Robert walked home, he was assaulted by a deranged derelict who bashed him across the head with a wine bottle.
