Rise of the Planet of the Apes is an American science fiction drama film directed by Rupert Wyatt. It was produced by Twentieth Century Fox and released theatrically in the United States on August 5th, 2011. The film is the seventh installment in the Planet of the Apes franchise, but takes place in a separate continuity from that of the original five films as well as Tim Burton's 2001 Planet of the Apes movie. Rise of the Planet of the Apes is a remake of 1972's Conquest of the Planet of the Apes in that it presents the origin story of how normal apes evolved into a highly intelligent species that would eventually dominate the entire planet.
