The Rip is a fictional location featured in comic books published by Marvel Comics. It first appeared in Nova, Volume 4 #8 in January, 2008. This area of outer space also appeared in related media, though it was not identified by name. This includes the 2014 film Guardians of the Galaxy and the 2018 film Avengers: Infinity War as well as the Guardians of the Galaxy cartoon series.
The Rip is a cross-section of time and space where the laws of physics do not apply. This phenomena may be related to the ancient race known as the Celestials. The head of a dead Celestial exists inside the Rip and has since been converted into a scientific research station called Knowhere. The Collector maintains a museum on Knowhere. Cosmo the telepathic dog inhabits this region of space. The Annihilation War spread over into the Rip. Nova Corps member Richard Rider has had experiences in the Rip battling Abyss and the Luminals. The Guardians of the Galaxy have had several adventures in the Rip.
