With Captain America[]
Rick Jones took it upon himself to assume the identity of Bucky - a role once made famous by Captain America's original partner, James Buchanan Barnes. Captain America and Bucky fought up against the Hulk in New York City. Rick's history with the Hulk enabled him to calm the beast down and drive him away. (Captain America 110)
Afterward, Hydra attempted to poison New York City's water supply. Captain America and Bucky fought against them and met Madame Hydra for the first time. (Captain America 110)
Hydra raided Avengers Mansion with the intent of kidnapping Captain America. Instead, they managed to nab Rick Jones using a piece of cloth soaked with a time-release knockout gas. Rick began having wild hallucinations and was brought back to a Hydra facility. Captain America tracked him down and rescued him. (Captain America 111)
