The Real Ghostbusters is an American ongoing comic book series of the supernatural fantasy and action genres. It is based on the 1986Real Ghostbusters animated series, which itself is based on the 1984 live-action Ghostbusters feature film. The series was published by NOW Comics and ran for twenty-eight issues from August, 1988 to December, 1990. The majority of the series was written by James Van Hise.
Ghostbusters was created by writer and executive producer Harold Ramis along with screenwriter Dan Aykroyd. It was brought to life as a feature film in 1984 by director Ivan Reitman and spawned a sequel named Ghostbusters II in 1989, also directed by Reitman. A remake film, Ghostbusters: Answer the Call was released in 2016 and directed by Paul Feig. Another film installment, Ghostbusters: Afterlife which continues the original continuity, was released in 2021 and was helmed by Ivan Reitman's son, Jason Reitman. The Ghostbusters franchise has also spun-out several animated projects as well as comic book titles and merchandise.
Another series, The Real Ghostbusters, which actually predates this series by a few months was an illustrated magazine series and was published by Marvel UK from 1988 to 1992. The was published on a weekly release schedule and ran for 193 issues.
