Ralph Angus McQuarrie was a concept artist born in Gary, Indiana on June 13th, 1929. He is best known for his work on the original Star Wars trilogy and drafted many of the designs used for landscapes, robots and alien creatures. As an illustrator for Industrial Light and Magic, McQuarrie also lent his talents to other well-known franchises including George Lucas' Indiana Jones film series. Ralph worked with director Steven Spielberg on Close Encounters of the Third Kind and E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial.

Ralph McQuarrie passed away on March 3rd, 2012 in Berkeley, California at the age of 82.
