Rachel Dawes is a fictional lawyer and a supporting character in the "The Dark Knight Trilogy", which is part of the greater Batman film series line of media based on the character of Batman as seen in comic books published by DC Comics. The character was originally played by Katie Holmes and introduced in the 2005 film Batman Begins. For the film's 2008 sequel, The Dark Knight, she was replaced by actress Maggie Gyllenhaal.
